Hey there, my name is Katja Morozova and I’m a professional dancer, choreographer, coach
Here’s my story of how I started to dance and how I pursued the life, that I’m living now, as a professional dancer and choreographer.
When I was 7 years old, a beautiful woman came into our classroom in Ukraine and promoted her dance classes. She was teaching a lot of styles, from ballroom to hiphop, and we had great shows together. That’s how I found out, I’m in love with dance, no matter which style it is.
From then on I never quit dancing, just once, for a couple of months, because my next ballroom teacher was way too strict to us. Yes, this cliche about ukrainien dance teachers is true in this case :D
After changing the dance school, I concentrated on ballroom: Latin and standard; taking parallel private ballet classes to get the stretch my teachers expected from me.
When I was 11, we moved to Germany and the first thing my mum and I did, was search for a dance school. Me and my dance partner won a lot of titles in Latin and Standard. Until I was 19, ballroom competitions were my life.
Meanwhile I never stopped dancing different styles and creating a lot of choreographies by myself. The first dance I choreographed was with 10 years - a show for my auntie’s firm. Also, in Germany I took a lot of hiphop and break dance classes that were offered in my ballroom dance school in Krefeld. One day I felt, that I need some change, stopped ballroom competitions and decided to educate myself even more in other styles.
My next mentor was a successful choreographer who founded a dance company which focused on training professional dancers. Two years of retraining myself from classic to urban and commercial made my style of dancing cleaner, big and full out.
My knowledge was growing and I got to know myself better through dance, knowing low-key that this will be my profession. Also my love to teach and choreograph was growing. Starting at the age of 16 years teaching small classes to now leading own dance companies and giving sold out classes and workshops in different dance schools all around Germany. Also, on an international level dancing in Israel and Dubai, teaching different styles like Latin, Jazzfunk, Dancehall, Jazz, HipHop and kind of my own personal developed Style.
Due to working in different dance schools, I had a chance to take all the classes they offered, so I did. Every style touched my heart: Popping, Locking, Vogiung, Waacking, Dancehall, House, Modern, Commercial, Freestyle, Urban and so on and on. Till today I’m taking classes like crazy, traveling to L.A., London, Paris, Amsterdam and Kiev. I just love to dance and this will last forever.
Moving to a bigger city, Cologne, in Germany, brought me more contacts and audition possibilities, so my dance career started from 0 to 100% in 2012. I danced for a lot of tv-shows: German Idol, Masters of Dance, The Voice; also a lot of international artists like Jason Derulo, Fleur East; and had a chance to choreograph for Anne-Marie. This are just few of my references and I am happy and excited for what is coming next. My dreams as a dancer & choreographer are huge. Dream huge is the motto :D
And now, looking back to everything what happened and also feeling the importance of having somebody who is guiding you on your way, I see myself closing this circle. I want to give back, guide all my passionate students to be their better-selfs, showing that hard work always pays off, help to find confidence and self-love, inspire, who wants to be inspired and give a possibility to pursue a dance career.
